Custom Enclosure Protects an Outdoor Circuit Breaker Box from the Elements

Custom Enclosure Protects an Outdoor Circuit Breaker Box from the Elements

Qube designed a custom-fit plastic enclosure to shield an exposed outdoor circuit breaker panel from rain, sun, and general wear — built to the customer’s exact panel dimensions and the limited wall space available.

The Problem: An Exposed Circuit Breaker Box

Outdoor electrical panels take a beating. Left uncovered, a circuit breaker box is constantly exposed to rain, humidity, UV rays, and temperature swings — all of which can corrode components, degrade wiring, and shorten the lifespan of the equipment inside. That’s exactly the issue one Qube customer was facing: an outdoor breaker panel mounted on an exterior wall, sitting fully exposed next to the property’s electric meter, with no protection from the weather.

The customer needed a solution that would fully cover and protect the panel without interfering with the meter, conduit, or the limited wall space around it.

The Solution: A Made-to-Order Protective Enclosure

Rather than force a generic, off-the-shelf box into a space it wasn’t designed for, Qube built the enclosure around the customer’s actual constraints. The customer provided:

  • The exact dimensions of the circuit breaker box
  • The available wall space it needed to fit within, alongside the meter and conduit

Using that information, Qube’s team custom-designed and fabricated an enclosure sized to fit the panel precisely — enough room to house the breaker box cleanly, while staying within the footprint the customer had to work with. The finished enclosure mounts directly over the panel, giving it a clean, low-profile look while keeping the breaker box fully shielded from the elements.

Like all Qube enclosures, this one was custom fabricated using CAD-CAM technology to ensure a precise, reliable fit.

Why Plastic Enclosures Work for Outdoor Electrical Panels

Qube has been fabricating standard and custom plastic enclosures since 1993, and outdoor electrical protection is one of the most common use cases we solve for. Here’s why plastic outperforms traditional materials for applications like this one:

  • Weather and corrosion resistant: High-performance plastics won’t rust or corrode the way steel can, and they hold up to extreme outdoor conditions.
  • Insulated: Added protection for the sensitive equipment housed inside.
  • Economical: Qube enclosures typically cost about 50% less than comparable fiberglass or stainless steel enclosures.
  • Fully customizable: Every enclosure is built to the customer’s exact dimensions and mounting requirements — no forcing equipment into a box that doesn’t fit.
  • Low maintenance: Less upkeep is needed on equipment once it’s properly enclosed.
  • Consistent quality: CAD-CAM fabrication delivers 100% reliable results with the fit and finish of an injection-molded part, without the tooling costs.
  • Secure access when needed: Many units can be built with multiple door access points and locks.

Qube has been manufacturing standard and custom plastic enclosures since 1993. Our units are highly customizable and some of our more popular enclosures include CPU cabinets, WiFi router enclosures, and laser printer enclosures. Many of our plastic enclosures can be mounted to walls or tables. Other custom fabrication pieces can be made to hold multiple units, such as a computer and printer.
